Humble Beginnings

The story begins.

Hi, I'm Ben. I grew up in Lakewood, CO and graduated from the Colorado School of Mines in 2006 with a B.S. in Engineering Physics.

After applying to many graduate schools (of whom shall remain nameless to protect the guilty), I was accepted to only one: Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY.

The purpose of this blog is to detail the insane and overwhelming process of getting a PhD in physics. Moreover, it's to examine what happens to a person when they up and move from their hometown of 22 years, and go 1800 miles across the country to do research in stuff they've never heard of.

So I hope you'll all stick with me for the next 5-7 years. I'll try to keep this updated as much as possible. Welcome to the journey (I think we're gonna need a bigger boat).
